Pancakes and Booze 2012...Homerun!

This morning I woke up with the smell of maple syrup and acrylic paint in my head, all the remnants of a great event last night at The Duce in downtown Phoenix.  'Pancakes and Booze/Phoenix' was a knockout!  Great art from local artists and a great venue made for a unique event that will take it's theme to the south of Market neighborhood of San Francisco in two weeks at Gallery 4/5.  The setting was a warehouse converted to a restaraunt, bar, retail space, event space and oh yeah, boxing gym.  Beautiful atriums, classic vintage style and a great staff made it one of my favorite events in recent years.  I was fortunate enough to paint live and here is what I did, the unfortunate part is that it came together late in the evening so many of the guests only saw shapes and color and weren't around for the finishing touches like the bubble and it's content, but it was a great time nonetheless and I can't wait to do it again!

Yoga Breakin'

What kind of jeans are those, those are the real hero!

Yoga Breakin'

Slow and steady and macabre wins the race.

So I've done a few other pieces refering to the Toroise and the Haire which were more whimsical and humorous, but ths time I decided to take it to a slightly darker place.  And I have more projector screens to paint as well, will I follow this theme or won't I?  We'll just have to see.

Pondering a revolution of sorts

Won't you join me?

Breakfast of Champions

So I've determined that I will fill these jars with things like, oats, sugar, and pancake mix in order to create a true breakfast of champions theme for the kitchen.  As for the wall piece 'Trophies and Trees',  it further promotes my interest in other peoples challenges and accomplishments.  All of these trophies are second hand and many of them come with plaques that read; 'Spelling Champion' or '6-7 yr old Champion' or '2nd place'.  Just makes me wonder if these winners are still that, or are they longing for the good old days when they were recognized, even if only for being mediocre.  All of my trophies are floating in the goodwill-sphere somewhere in Southern California I'm sure, but if I keep looking maybe one day I'll find my name on a plaque next to 'did something neat once'.

The horse just reminds me of Golden Gate Park.

Commence Relaunch; The Prologue

So I am calling this entry 'The Prologue' simply because all of the older posts, now deleted, were full of nothing and I wanted to start fresh and explain my new direction.  Which is basically to post quite frequently and with worthy content.  I would love to say that I expect to post daily but we all know how that goes, but I will say that there will be something fresh every day; that is if we can all pretend that my days are 48-60 hours long.  So come along and enjoy the ride!  And be sure to subscribe via email!

Love your show!
